World Orphans Day: SOVCI calls for support and announces “Sing for Hope, Give for Change”
On World Orphans Day 2025, SOVCI raised concern about the rising number of orphaned children in Nigeria and announced a concert and fundraiser at Lagos State University.

World Orphans Day is observed on the second Monday of November. To mark the day in 2025, Smiles for Orphans and Vulnerable Children Initiative (SOVCI) raised concern about the rising number of orphaned children in Nigeria.
In a statement to PUNCH Healthwise, SOVCI’s Founder and Team Lead, Euriel Momah, said that existing social and economic challenges have made it harder for stakeholders to provide basic necessities for orphans and vulnerable children in the country.
The numbers behind the appeal
Citing data from UNICEF, he said there are about 140 million orphaned children worldwide, including 17.5 million in Nigeria. He described the challenges these children face: poverty, and a lack of access to education, health care and protection.
Sing for Hope, Give for Change
To raise awareness, SOVCI announced a musical concert and fundraising event themed “Sing for Hope, Give for Change”, scheduled for 16 November 2025 at Makanjuola Hall, Lagos State University, Ojo.
The event was planned to recognise and celebrate individuals and organisations that have shown remarkable support for orphans and vulnerable children in Nigeria, and to raise funds and mobilise support for them.
SOVCI called on individuals, organisations and governments to support the cause, so that more children can have education, health care and protection. In the founder’s words: “Let us come together to make a difference in the lives of orphaned children.”
