Smiles for Orphans and Vulnerable Children Initiative (SOVCI) marked the 2024 International Day of Education, themed “Learning for Lasting Peace”, together with the Faculty of Education of Lagos State University at the university’s campus in Ojo.

During the event, the two partners gave school kits to pupils in need from public primary and secondary schools in Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ojo.

Part of the SOVCI Streets to School project

SOVCI’s founder explained that the donation was part of the SOVCI Streets to School project, which supports poor and vulnerable children in school. The project works on two fronts: helping out-of-school children to enrol, and making sure that pupils from poor homes who are already in school do not drop out for lack of support.

The founder also raised concern about the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria, which he put at more than 20 million, and called on stakeholders to do more.

What the project aims to give children

On its former website, SOVCI described the project as a way to equip children with the educational support, skills and confidence they need to build a brighter future for themselves.

Schools and partners who would like to support Streets to School can contact SOVCI through its official channels.
